The Power of Essential Oils

Jan 08, 2022

In 1998 I was introduced to essential oils while living in a small rural town where everyone was supposed to mow their lawns the same height, Odessa, Washington. My new best friend lived in an even smaller town with only 600 people. We met going to the same church in Ritzville.

I was homeschooling my first grader and had just had my first home birth the year before and wanted to do everything naturally. She shared “The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy” by Valerie Ann Worwood (her sister-in-law if I remember). My friend had six kids and used essential oils extensively to help them all stay healthy.

At the time I didn’t realize the power in one drop of pure essential oil. When growing up in Quincy, Washington I would drive past peppermint fields and loved the fresh aroma (much better than when passing the stockyards). I also loved to drink peppermint tea. I was shocked to learn that one drop of pure peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea!

What I loved about essential oils is that they were easy to use anywhere, I could carry them with my in my purse, and I didn’t need very many to treat everyday ills.
